Can you use external RAM on Mac?

There is no such thing as external RAM. RAM plugs into the RAM/memory slots on your motherboard and nowhere else. Are you talking about an SSD? Because that is possible if it's a portable drive that has a thunderbolt connector or you have an adapter to go from thunderbolt to whatever connection it does have.

Can you use a flash drive to increase RAM?

RAM can easily be added to your system if you are not already at maximum capacity for your motherboard, and you have available slots. However, RAM can get expensive, and even after you max out your motherboard you may need more. Using a flash drive as RAM is a quick, easy and cheaper way to increase system memory.

Does Mac use storage as RAM?

Not only is using disk space as RAM possible, it's always happening, as needed. You can't even completely turn it off without hacking the system. You mentioned Photoshop...it uses its own virtual memory system, where you can assign which of your disks is used as virtual memory.

Can you add RAM through Thunderbolt?

No Suitable External Port

As we all know, nowadays, common external ports include USB port and Thunderbolt port. However, RAM should use DDR, DDR2, DDR3, or DDR4 interface. These interfaces are incompatible with USB or Thunderbolt port.

Is soldered RAM upgradeable?

Yes, it can be done, and with the right equipment it isn't “that” difficult. But, the real problem comes in with the rest of the machine. First off you would likely need to flash a new BIOS onto the board (if that's even possible).

Does ReadyBoost increase gaming performance?

While running 3DMark Vantage the results have shown that ReadyBoost has no effect on gaming performance. This benchmark measures CPU and GPU performance while running games and the scores did not show any noticeable difference when ReadyBoost was enabled.

How much ReadyBoost should I use?

The recommended ratio between the ReadyBoost cache and system memory is 1:1 to 2.5:1. So, if your computer has 8GB of memory, you could create a ReadyBoost cache between 8GB and 20GB. But you could use a 32GB flash drive and allocate all of it to ReadyBoost.

Is 8gb RAM enough?

Most users will only need about 8 GB of RAM, but if you want to use several apps at once, you might need 16 GB or more. If you don't have enough RAM, your computer will run slowly and apps will lag. Although having enough RAM is important, adding more won't always give you a substantial improvement.

Does Mac use SSD as RAM?

The MacBook Air already uses the SSD as a sort of RAM, when it manages it as Virtual Memory. It is far from a substitute though. It is far, far slower in access, and Read & write speed. Moreover, it's use should be minimized when possible.

Can you have external RAM?

RAM cannot be added externally. You cannot simulate some space on your hard disk to act as RAM and you cannot use your USB device as RAM.
