How do you make a fence on sloped land?

Drive a stake at the top and bottom of the slope where you'd like the fence to end. String a mason's line from the base of the top stake to the bottom stake and then level with a line level. Measure the distance between the line and the ground at the bottom stake to find out how much the fence drops along the run.

Can you install fence panels on a slope?

When building a fence on a slope using preassembled panels, the entire panel is stepped up or down so it remains level. The posts are installed plumb, and each panel steps lower or higher as the grade changes. This allows the overall line of the fence to follow the slope in a stair-step fashion.

Should fence rails be level?

Typically, the top rail is placed 7-8” from the top of the fence. The bottom rail is typically 7-8” from the grade. And the middle rail is placed even between the top and bottom rails. Do not place your rails any further from either the top or bottom of the fence.

How far should concrete fence posts be in the ground?

Dig your hole to the correct depth, allowing for the height of the fence panel and the gravel board. As a rough guide the hole should be a minimum 1/3 the height of the fence, so a 6 foot fence would need an 8 foot post in a 2 foot deep hole.

How do you fit wooden gravel boards to concrete posts?

The quickest and easiest way of fixing gravel boards to timber fence posts is to use timber “cleats”. These are small pieces of pressure treated batten that are screwed to the fence post and the gravel board is then screwed to the cleat.
